Centre-fuge Public Art Project. NYC, New York/Miami, Florida

Per Centre-fuge’s website this is how it all started: in mid-2011 a drab, gray trailer popped up on the south side of East First Street. The trailer functioned and functions as a temporary office for workers on the Houston Restoration Project and the 2nd Avenue subway line. Lower East Side residents Jonathan Neville and Pebbles Russell decided to combat the negative impact the construction was having on residents and businesses by transforming the trailer into a rotating street gallery dubbed Centre-fuge Public Art Project.

The goal was to have between 2 to 7 artists at a time create work on all visible sides of the structure with the art and artists changing once every two months. After the first two “cycles,” the trailer was opened to proposals and Centre-fuge became the grassroots project it is today! (http://www.centrefugeart.com/)

Today Centre-fuge has branched out and also puts art on construction sites and transitional spaces in New York City and Miami.

They are currently in their 20th cycle: Spring 2016. Trailer:
